Companies collaborate on an integrated solid-state Smart Surface HMI interface designed to improve functionality, design flexibility and driver experience.
BURGOS, Spain and SAN JOSE, Calif., September 8, 2026 — Antolin, a global supplier of technology solutions for vehicle interiors, and UltraSense Systems, a Silicon Valley-based leader in solid-state user interface technology, today announced the advancement of their collaboration on a next-generation Smart Surface HMI development initiative for a future automotive platform.
Under this initiative, UltraSense will provide advanced electronics, including its solid-state user-interface technology, sensing architecture, firmware and algorithms, while Antolin will lead the integration, engineering and industrialization of the complete Smart Surface HMI solution.
The new interface is designed to improve conventional mechanical controls with a modern, thin and configurable solid-state system that combines touch and force sensing with visual and haptic feedback. This technology enables controls to be seamlessly integrated into vehicle interior surfaces while delivering the responsiveness and confirmation drivers expect from a physical button. It also features decorative lighting.
“Moving from a technology collaboration to an automotive collaborative development project is an important milestone for UltraSense and Antolin,” said Mo Maghsoudnia, Founder and CEO of UltraSense Systems. “Together, we are creating a highly integrated user-interface platform that gives automotive designers greater freedom while providing drivers with an intuitive, precise and premium interaction experience.”
UltraSense’s automotive user-interface platform consolidates sensing, signal processing, lighting control and system intelligence within a highly integrated semiconductor solution. Its sensor-fusion architecture can distinguish intended user interactions and support operation through a wide range of automotive materials and surface designs.
As Jorge Juárez, Chief Technology Officer at Antolin, explains: “Since the beginning of our collaboration with UltraSense, we have shared a common vision: creating vehicle interiors where technology becomes a natural part of the user experience. By combining our complementary expertise, we are accelerating innovations that bring together design, intelligence and interaction, helping shape the next generation of intuitive and integrated mobility experiences.”
This collaborative project represents an important step in the companies’ broader strategy to bring scalable Smart Surface user-interface solutions to a wide range of vehicle interior applications including instrument panels, center consoles, door controls, overhead systems and integrated control surfaces.
